It has been a while since I have checked in on this, one of Greenpoint’s finest eccentrics. As a matter of fact it was almost a year ago to this day I saw this gent tidying up his yard (in sub-freezing weather) wearing nothing but a pair of tighty whities. This was a sight I assure you I will not soon forget. This photograph comes courtesy of Rowan5, who happens to have taken a number of very nice shots over the weekend. Check ’em out!

Goodbye Jack O’Neill’s, Hello Shayz Lounge
Filed under: Greenpoint Magic
As predicted Jack O’Neill’s has changed hands and as of last Saturday it has closed its doors. You can check out its newest incarnation January 17th when it reopens as the Shayz Lounge.
I suspect I speak for many when I say I hope the new owners are going to keep the Irish pub theme and not attempt to transform this establishment into something unduly “hip”. Given the name they have selected I am not terribly optimistic, but I suppose we all will just have to wait and see.

P.S.: Speaking of “hip” those would-be entrepreneurs among you who happen to have some a lot of extra change laying around might be interested to know 259 Banker Street has officially hit the market.

Boobification Photo Du Jour: Racked At The Gutter
Yesterday a few of my friends and I whiled away the day bowling. We paid for two hours thinking (in our naivete) they’d let us finish the second round. They didn’t. They cut us off. Nonetheless before they tossed us out my buddy over at Bad Advice achieved her dream: cracking 100.
You’re a 300 (or whatever they consider to be a perfect score) in my book! As are the other wonderful Greenpoint, Williamsburg, “East” Williamsburg friends who ventured out to celebrate my birthday. Thank you!
Otherwise I saw fit to leave my calling card at the Gutter. I like to call it “Racked In Black”.

Fillmore Place, Revisited
Shortly after writing this post I received an email from my buddy over at Brooklyn11211. In a nutshell this missive stated that this block was on the docket to become landmarked. At the time (and I mean no disrespect to my colleague when I write this) I thought to myself:
That’s fine and dandy. Let’s see if it really happens.
In other words: I’ll believe it when I see it. Actions speak louder than words. Especially when one lives in an area where a number of noteworthy buildings have been needlessly and careless razed.
Well yesterday I received an email from the Waterfront Preservation Alliance of Greenpoint & Williamsburg. It was entitled “Fillmore Place Calendaring at Landmarks on Tuesday” and it read as follows:
Williamsburg is on its way to having its first Historic District:

Reader Question Du Jour: Casa Mon Amour
After announcing earlier this week that Casa Mon Amour was going out of business I received the following question from a reader named Rowan:
…any idea what Beatrice will do next?
Well as it would happen a gentleman named Tony was kind enough to share the scoop with yours truly. I will in turn pass it along to you:
I just had a smoke with Beatrice from Casa Mon Amour. As you know the restaurant is closed down now. She wants to spread the word that she is selling anything and everything now and will be around all day Saturday (1/10) for a CMA indoor yard sale. Like I said on the post, a big bummer. Beatrice said that she will be having a few private parties for the immediate future but no plans for any further restaurant business.
Those of you who are interested in (what I would surmise will be) a sale of restaurant fixtures might want to brave the inclement weather and make your way down to Casa Mon Amour tomorrow, January 10th. I also have word that the restaurant itself is for sale and she has had at least one “nibble”.

In other restaurant related news…
What (somewhat) recently vacated restaurant space appears to not only have a taker also has an application for a liquor license pending with Community Board 1… along with a few summonses from the Department of Buildings? For the reveal click here.
