From The New York Shitty Inbox: A Dead Body On Dupont?

hey heather
not sure of the details yet, but looks like they found a body in a construction site on my block dupont between manhattan and mcquiness. detectives here now, coroner hasn’t shown up yet
i didn’t know if you knew, but body was found in a stalled construction site between Manhattan and McGuiness. The site was next door to an acquaintance of mine. I can’t see to remember if he lives on clay or dupont. just didn’t know if you knew.

UPDATE, 3:15 p.m. Smitty writes:
update on the dead guy- they found a note scrawled on a piece of plywood, and there’s a polish guy trying to read it, there’s five cops all with their notepads out
UPDATE, 7/8/09; 1:45 p.m.: I have it per a reliable source this was a suicide. Apparently the man in question (a Polish gentleman who was reputedly homeless) left a note (on a piece of plywood, no less) and hung himself. His body had decomposed quite a bit by the time it was discovered. This begs the question how many more derelict construction sites in north Brooklyn have been or will be employed for nefarious purposes? My guess: quite a few.
It should also be noted the property in question, 141 Dupont Street (also known as 98 Clay Street) has quite a history of non-compliance per the Department of Building’s web site.
Not that the Department of Buildings has seen fit to actually do anything about this, of course.
The Gowanus Lounge (at my prompting, it should be added) wrote about 141 Dupont Street as far back as March 7, 2007. Robert Guskind also wrote about this site again on April 4, 2007 and June 21, 2007. In the former he quite presciently opined:
…Not be cynical, but one can sense the tragic way this could go. A couple of children will be injured or killed somewhere in Greenpoint or Williamsburg, where there are dozens, if not hundreds of demolition and construction sites with flimsy fences and ones that are open wide enough for a child. Afterwards, the Department of Buildings will finally react….The interesting question is why the Department of Buildings doesn’t devote a couple of hours to the task. We don’t feature these things because we’ve got a fence fetish. Rather, every time we see one, we picture a child, a pet, or the occasional idiotic drunk stumbling into one spots and getting hurt or killed.
Or, as we have learned today: killing one’s self.

Some of you probably know ground has been broken for the new soccer field which will grace Bushwick Inlet Park. What you probably do not know is (per a most curious anonymous source) I have been told there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony with none other than our fair Mayor as well as “other elected officials and Commissioner Benepe†this upcoming Monday, July 6, 2009! The festivities will kick off at either 9:00 or 10:00 a.m. (I am awaiting confirmation for all of this— if/when I get a firm time and date I will post them here.)
Well kids, I have a confirm on the time: between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m.

Well, here’s the “local media”. Aaron Short (A Short Story), Juliet Linderman (Greenpoint Gazette), and Jeff Mann (Greenpoint Gazette). I was uninvited.
But not unconcerned.
My concern involves a short story.
A VERY short story indeed!
A post that is comprised only of comments.
This wasn’t the case last week. You can read the rest of the comments here.
Which brings me back to this short story. It was excised. Follows is facsimile of it since Mr. Short has seen to censor himself so as to curry favor. With the right people.
You must be desperate if you’re pimping for votes in north Brooklyn, David. In the cockfight between you and John on Bedford. You lost. Plain and simple.
I vote old school “Texas Style”, e.g; I do not vote for a candidate, I vote against the one who offends me most. It’s like picking between syphilis and gonnorrhea. If Lucifer himself was to put his name on the ballot I’d vote for him. AGAINST YOU. For the simple reason that I little doubt the devil himself could wreak more havoc and destruction on north Brooklyn than you, David Yassky, already have.

UPDATE, 2:50 p.m.: This story on A Short Story is back up! See the comments for Mr. Short’s explanation as to its disappearance.

I saw those IDT energy scammers in my hood again. It’s because I heard a lady screaming that got my attention, telling these two guys to get the hell out of her building. I took some pictures as they left 66 Driggs today at 2pm. Watch out!

Lost Love. 🙁 Last seen at 11:22 AM Sunday July 5th on N 8th near Roebling Street.
You were my fireworks on the 4th of July and you changed the way I will hear church bells forever! If this finds you please find me since I am a total moron and didn’t give you my number or get yours and I would love to see you again.
How can I not shake the suspicion this is going to end with wedding bells…
or a restraining order?

New York Shitty Day Ender: A Tale Of Two Cities
As I have previously mentioned I spent today knocking around Little Neck and Douglaston with Kevin Walsh. One commenter, dc108, was concerned about Mr. Walsh’s welfare and wrote:
Did you really drag that poor man out while he’s recovering from heart surgery?
That “poor man” drug yours truly and the Mister for a three mile walk! I’m exhausted— but so much so to preclude sharing a slide show and a few thoughts.
1. Cherry Street, Greenpoint and Cherry Street, Douglaston are quite different.
2. In fact, Greenpoint and Douglaston are very different in a number of ways:
- Among other things Greenpoint has a lot less “green” in it than Douglaston. With greenery comes insects. I had the pleasure of being bitten by a number of them.
- But Douglaston, not being Greenpoint, I had the peace of mind to know my lesions were probably not bedbug induced.
- Douglaston smells good, Greenpoint nowadays not so much.
- Greenpoint has its fair share of dysfunctional pay phones. But when someone in Douglaston destroys a public pay phone he (or she) is thoughtful enough to put the receiver back on the hook.
But enough talk… on with the show!
All in all I found Douglaston to be a very nice place… but I wouldn’t want to live there. Sure it has trees, flowers aplenty, and a lovely waterfront but it is sorely lacking in other “amenities” like men perusing pornography in public parks and a nature walk which is located on the premises of the largest waste treatment plant on the eastern seaboard. It is appointments such as the previous that make living in the Garden Spot of the Universe so special.
