Something Neat: New Mural on Richardson Street

December 16, 2009 ·

There has long been a mural at the intersection of Lorimer and Richardson Street. Over the years it has fallen into a state of disrepair. Hence why I was very pleased to discover a new mural has taken its place! Follows are some highlights.

This mural, as with any work of art for that matter, is best experienced in person. For this reason I strongly advise that if or when the opportunity arises you swing by and give it a look-see. It’s really neat!

GREENPOINTLESSparade

Many of you will recall the weather last Sunday was downright dismal. This is why I and undoubtedly many others stayed home. If Greenpointless’s lovely photographs from the Virgen de Guadelupe Parade on Manhattan Avenue (like the above image) are any indication, we missed out on something really special. You can view her entire set by clicking here. Go ahead and do it; you won’t regret it!

LIQCITYMany of you have doubtless heard of the massive cocaine bust which came to pass in Williamsburg last month. What you might not know is, if LiQcity is to be believed, our friends in Long Island City are having issues of their own. In a luxury condominium, no less:

Well well well. Apparently fancy shmancy Long Island City condos have drug busts, too…

You can read the whole story by clicking here.

P.S.: Half a million dollars in cash?!? Apparently there are some businesses that are, indeed, “recession proof”. Perhaps these brave entrepreneurs could tender some vocational training to our banking and automotive industries?

THIS WEEKEND: Sip & Shop

Yesterday I shared with you the good news (for holiday shopping procrastinators like myself, anyway) about the Greenpoint Reformed Church’s Holiday Flea Market. Well, I have even more local shopping goodness to pass along: there will be a second sale the same day only blocks away!

vintagesale

Among the goodies promised at this event are vintage apparel, hatboxes, decorative items, kitschy curiosities and “retro drink specials”. Although I myself make it a point to never drink and shop (it’s hazardous to my wallet) this sounds like a mighty fun way to get one’s holiday shopping done while buying local. Check it out!

THIS WEEK: Tits 4 Totes Calendar Party

shittitsthumbnailNo, not those tits (as seen at left). This event will be showcasing the more comely (and hopefully less aromatic) variety to raise funds for the North Brooklyn composting project. My tipster Angela Barrow (of Cheek-ie Designs) writes:

greetings miss H!

I am an avid reader of your blog. I love it! and a fellow greenpointer, i have a great event this friday. It’s free! There are calendars for sale and a portion of the proceeds go to benefit the north brooklyn compost project! which is totally rad.  Hope you guys and gals can post this event and attend.

Here’s the deal:

On Friday, December 18, 2009 starting at 7:00 p.m. Williamsburg’s very own Fluke will be inaugurating the 2009 edition of the Tits 4 Totes Calendar. This 11″x17″ “black and white beauty” will feature (and I quote) “26 of Brooklyn’s loveliest tits as well as unique recycling tips”. This can be yours for a mere $20.00. How can you top that? Methinks I know what Santa will be putting in the Mister’s stocking this year…

Tits For Totes

169 Wythe Avenue

fleamarket

As I was coming home from picking up some groceries I encountered a woman putting up these fliers. I asked her for more information and she gladly obliged. Here’s the deal:

1. This upcoming Saturday, December 19, from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. the Greenpoint Reformed Church will be hosting a Holiday Flea Market.
2. To this end they need stuff to sell
3. You can help one of two ways:

  • You can donate items to the church (please note the flier state that  “no crap” will be accepted) or
  • You can contact the Greenpoint Reformed Church at the above telephone number about having a vending table!

Holiday Flea Market
Saturday, December 15, 2009; 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Greenpoint Reformed Church
136 Milton Street
Brooklyn, New York 11222

Think about it: Williamspoint’s most talented can earn a little money this holiday season. Shoppers can purchase gifts for their loved ones. All while benefiting a terrific cause: feeding north Brooklyn’s neediest. Everyone wins!
