Vito Lopez Has Won…
…or would that be Steve Levin? Vito’s monkeys were in effect yesterday evening in Greenpoint. At the subway exit on India Street, immediately outside Mary D’s Senior Center at 80 Dupont Street. When the Mister reminded them of the 100 foot rule they were defiant and obnoxious— but moved. They took to canvassing the local liquor stores instead. Fly monkeys, fly!

The carpetbagger from Bushwick seems to have won the nomination for the Democratic ticket for the City Council seat for the 33rd District. Lucky us. Vito has been screwing Greenpoint and Williamsburg for years; perhaps now Levin will kiss us first? I doubt it.

New York Shitty Day Ender: Saltie?
Today as I was hustling to the G train I was pleasantly surprised to notice the former location of Cheeks Bakery did not languish as a vacant storefront for long. Goodbye Cheeks, hello Saltie! Closing on a (semi) related note it would appear that N6 is gone and “Pinkerton Wine Bar” aspires to take its place.
I wonder if the Pinkertons* encountered the same resistance as their not-so-distant neighbor, Custom, did last month? I suppose we’ll find out soon enough.

*It should be noted Pinkerton National Detective Agency and Pinkerton Wine Bar are not related. But given the previous’s checkered history I find this name— for a wine bar, no less— interesting to say the least.

No name for this lovely tuxedo lady was provided but given she sports a couple extra toes and “crooked tail” that should make her easily identifiable. Snapshots From Astoria
Yesterday evening the Mister and I ventured to Astoria to support our buddy Kevin Walsh, who happens to have a show of his photography at the Greater Astoria Historical Society. For those of you keeping count, this is the second day in a row we have ventured to the county of Queens. Anyhoo, it has been awhile I have been to my former stomping grounds (I lived in Astoria briefly during graduate school) so I brought along my camera and took a few photographs. Follow are some highlights. Enjoy!
What Elvira and Marilyn Monroe have to do with shoes I do not know. Regardless I found this display charming.
Change may have come to America but it’s still business as usual at this storefront. Despite his odious politics the man behind this missive is— believe it or not— a very nice guy. I have spoken to him.
I did a double take at this. Something else the greater Steinway Street and Broadway area sports are really cool old-school storefronts.

Happy Primary Day From New York Shitty!

Yes folks, today is the big day. I suspect I speak for many when I write that —regardless of who wins what has turned out to be one of the sleaziest races for a city council seat in recent history— I’ll be delighted to simply to have the barrage of mailers and automated phones cease and online excrescences such as this* to lose their raison d’etre and vanish in a puff of irrelevance. To close on a related note, Atlantic Yards Report has written a splendid post as to why they endorse Jo Anne Simon. I strongly recommend that any and all who will hitting the primaries today to vote for the 33rd district’s next Democratic party candidate read it.
