STOOP SALE ALERT: 131 Kent Street
I spied a woman posting these fliers this afternoon and figured why not pass it along? It has been my experience that the stoop (or in this case tag) sales on Kent Street have pretty good pickings. So if you’re in the market for furniture, paintings or “good misc.” (presumably on the cheap) check this one out!

Riddle Of The Day
Jay Lombard of Dog Habitat asks:
When is a square not a square?
Answer: when it’s in Greenpoint!
The sports bar that was located at 1 Bedford Ave has been given a makeover and a new name: Greenpoint Square. I didn’t have a chance to take a photo of it this morning. The windows were covered so I couldn’t tell how close they are to opening (another) bar in GP. I was laughing at the name because Greenpoint’s ‘flatiron’ building is anything but square!
Well, I swung by today to give this place a look-see. Not only were these guys gracious enough to tell me their planned opening date (next Friday, February 12) but they also let me inside to take a couple photographs!
Will these guys make their self-imposed deadline of one week? I’m not terribly sure. Nonetheless they are doing some very lovely work on the space I am very eager to see the finished product!

How I could have overlooked this in the light of Lux Interior’s untimely passing is beyond me. The previous having been said, this soon-to-be antiquated set of bunny ears hails from Boerum Street.

Cookie Road Update
Not too much to report here save I spoke to the owner of the store (whose incredibly adorable pup, Lola, can be seen above). She putting the final touches on the place and is awaiting another battery of inspections by the city. If all goes well Cookie Road should be open for business next month! As I have mentioned before, my dentist’s husband attended their evening of free tastings several months back. His review was glowing. Whether or not this is due to the quality of the product or is part of some vast conspiracy to drum up more fillings remains to be seen tasted.*

Say It Ain’t So: Lux Interior Is Dead
My fondest memory of the Cramps has nothing to do whatsoever with the band per se (although I had the pleasure of seeing them live and love their music). It has to do with my father: Pa Heather. Back in the day before i-Tunes I drew up a list of items I would like for Christmas. In my wish list I included (for shits and giggles) “Smell of Female” by the Cramps on compact disc. Being the dutiful dad Pa Heather was (and is) he went to the local music store, asked one of their employees for help finding “Smell of Female” and purchased it. Although my father made it sound like a chore at the time I think he rather enjoyed it.
Thank you Lux for the great music (A Date With Elvis is in high rotation in this here household), laughs and bringing my (sometimes closeted but subversive nonetheless) family closer together!
Come tomorrow morning I am sticking out my can for the garbage man. Not just out of respect for Lux Interior, but as a married woman I take all the cheap thrills I can get!

P.S.: Actually I know of another story about the Cramps. My boss Larry da Junkman once shaved the word “Cramps” in his back hair and flashed it at Lux, et. al. at one of their concerts. It apparently made quite the impression as Mr. Interior later mentioned it in a radio show.
Green Street Mama Cat Is MIA!
Fliers like this break my heart. Unlike a lot of people who can no longer afford their pets and simply toss them out on the street or dump them at the nearest feral cat colony the person who lost this cat simply didn’t know any better. A popular misconception (which leads to the conception of a lot of kittens) is that nursing cats cannot go into heat. They can and will. And when female cats go into heat they make every effort to escape. That’s what happened here.
If you have seen this lovely momma cat or know of her whereabouts please contact her person at either of the above telephone numbers. Not only is this man heartbroken, he wants to get her spayed before she has any more kittens.
Thanks.
