Luxury Condominiums For Sale!
Corcoran has made its presence known in Bedford Stuyvesant!
This must be a luxurious pile of crap if Corcoran has seen fit to pimp it.
Follows are some of the appointments for this luxury condo:
- Air-conditioning boxes by Friedrich.
- Shoddy brick laying (pointing).
- Exposed PVC and gutters.
- Exposed electrical meters.
- Ample of amounts of cement and no greenery whatsoever.
- Butt ugly balconies.
Way to go, Babs!

Greenpoint Construction Site du Jour: 64 Green Street
A reader of New York Shitty (and overall very cool person) used to live in this building. The landlord said he sold the property to a developer (hence why he/she was asked to vacate). Given what I read on ACRIS, I am not so sure. In any case an application was filed with the Department of Buildings to:
TO HORIZONTALLY ENLARGE EXISTING 3 STORY, 2 FAMILY FRAME DWELLING AS PER PLANS FILED
It was disapproved.
There are no valid permits whatsoever for “modifying” this property.
But such trivialities didn’t stop these go getters!
Permits? They don’t need any stinking permits!
Cut these guys some slack complainer!
They cordoned off the front gate!

80 Metropolitan Avenue Celebrates Earth Day
Filed under: Williamsburg
Learning that Greenpoint’s Earth Day celebrations at McCarren Park were funded by Exxon Mobil, an entity which has done much to add value to the quality of life in the Garden Spot, I was left in a quandary. “It would be a crime to stay indoors on a beautiful day like today” I thought to myself ” I wonder what I should do?” Then it hit me:
I’ll see what’s shaking at 80 Metropolitan Avenue!
Nothing says I love Mother Earth like pouring cement and making a helluva lot of noise on a Saturday afternoon! Although it is difficult to tell for certain, it would appear these guys might have actually had a variance to do this work. I know, I was just as shocked as you are.
In any case, take a tip from the guys at 80 Metropolitan Avenue and celebrate Earth Day everyday by doing your part to conserve water!

Gift Giving: Williamsburg Style
One thing that never ceases to fascinate me about parked bicycles in north Brooklyn is the propensity people have for leaving “gifts” in their baskets. In Greenpoint this usually entails empty fifths of vodka and banana peels. I do not know why this is so, I suppose it is the average Garden Spotter’s idea of a balanced diet.
So needless to say when my husband and I spied this bicycle on Metropolitan Avenue in Williamsburg yesterday we simply had to see what “present” had been left for its owner. Let’s go in for a closer look, shall we?
Mmm… doggie dumplings!

TOMORROW: Free/Low Cost Spay And Neutering
Sunday, April 20th, the ASPCA will be providing free/low cost spay and neutering for your dog or cat right here in Greenpoint! Pet owners who can provide proof or public assistance or a Medicaid card can have their pets neutered for absolutely FREE! Everyone else is requested to donate $25.00. This is not only a great deal, but it also reduces the number of unwanted pets that end up being euthanized— or worse— every year.

Get A Load Of This: The Power Plant That Won’t Die
Filed under: Greenpoint Magic
Via my comrades at Curbed:
On Friday, April 18 TransGas Energy Systems LLC will petition the NYS Siting Board to reverse its March 21, 2008 decision denying TransGas’ application for the permit required to build its state-of-the-art, clean, environmentally positive cogeneration plant in Greenpoint Brooklyn.
In its zeal to appease former Deputy Mayor Doctoroff and the newly gentrified community of Greenpoint, the Siting Board, guided by the staff of the Department of Public Service, gutted the State’s authority over the licensing of electric generating plants and transmission facilities. The Siting Board opted to defer to local governments on whether and where to build new electric infrastructure. The decision to mollify a well-heeled, largely white, professional neighborhood – who simply did not want to have a new power plant in their backyard, however clean it might be – confirms what many observers have come to conclude: that New York State is on a suicide mission to sacrifice the State’s future in order to cater to NIMBY’s.
Um, has Transgas ever tread north of Greenpoint Avenue? Given this snippet of rhetoric I doubt it. Get with it, assholes. This community is not solely white, well-heeled or professional; it is a working class neighborhood that is sick and tired of being used as a dumping ground to mollify other “well-heeled, largely white, professional(s)”.

Rarely has a comment moved me as much as this one has— and I mean this in a good way. I was not compelled to refresh my knowledge of New York State’s Stalking Law and I found it very witty to boot.
WAY TO GO SPANKY!
