Spiderman is rocking a pretty fierce sidekick nowadays. Per the person who brought this to my attention, this hilarious item not only survived the recent blizzard, but has graced this intersection for at least three months.

(Insert “Who needs Robin/”boy wonder” or “man of steel” joke here.)

Citizen Christine (who sent the above photograph taken at today’s Three Kings Parade) writes:

Tom (Burrows, general badass and Public Safety Chair of Community Board 1— Ed. Note) wanted camels! He got 3 at the three kings parade today. That’s more than electeds who marched. Any chance this could go on NewYorkShitty? Another wish from Tom.

Duly noted for posterity!

A lady we’ll call “E” writes:

Not sure if you heard about this… but Max Starck was apparently kidnapped in the street!    Not sure if this is for real, but both of these blogs are pretty legit in the Satmar circles…

Those who are interested (and let’s face facts: this is crazy— even by north Brooklyn standards) can read coverage from the New York Post and Gothamist by clicking here and here.
UPDATE, January 4th, 2014: this case is no longer one of kidnapping but now murder. You can read the Post’s rundown of this gruesome turn of events by clicking here.

Hey Heather,

It has been awhile since piece but I just put up my latest piece a Christmas present to the MTA at Bedford L stop that I thought you might be interested in…

The present is waiting for the MTA to come pick it up at Bedford Ave stop, it is going to be there for the next 24 hours thanks to the watchful eye of the Bedford Ave busker. It is just a mould of my body but it sure has confused a number of people thinking it is a mime.

Nice. Perhaps Julian should knock out one of these bad boys for the Crosstown Local? Given the recent “green-lighting” of Greenpoint Landing…

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Grand Street’s Second Annual Window Display Competition!

postcard

The very nice lady who heads the Grand Street BID, Artineh Havan, writes:

Dear Miss Heather,

I hope that you are well and had a nice Thanksgiving. We are having our 2nd annual holiday window display competition next Saturday, December 14th from 1 to 4 pm. We hope you will mention it on your blog. If not, we totally understand.

We have asked high school art students to design holiday windows for 12 of our businesses and inviting the community to vote for their favorite.

To entice people to come to Grand Street we also have Santa walking around, free face painting and scavenger hunt for kids. We are also raffling off a $100 gift card for those who vote.

Below please find a little write up. I have attached our postcard for you, and this link to our website’s photo gallery shows a few samples from last year. We are very excited and cannot wait:

Due to last year’s successful event, the Grand Street BID has organized its 2nd annual window display competition. This year four schools—the Green School, The High School for Enterprise, Business and Technology, Progress High School, and the High School for Architecture and Design—are designing holiday windows for 12 businesses on Grand Street between Lorimer and Humboldt Streets in East Williamsburg.

The students will install the designs on Friday, December 13th, a day before the competition; and on Saturday, December 14th the community is invited to vote for their favorite window and be entered to win $100. The winning design students will also win a gift certificate to a local art store.

There will be free face painting at Café Chillo: 702 Grand Street; kids’ scavenger hunt and Santa on Grand Street as well as lots of specials and discounts.

The event this year is bigger than last, which had two schools and eight windows.

The goal is to promote our businesses by involving the community and showcasing students’ talents.

Thank you so much for your consideration, and I hope to see you on Grand Street.

Gladly posted— and thanks Artineh!
