Lost on Metropolitan Avenue: Pippin
When I spied this flier (which hails from Metropolitan Avenue just north of the BQE) soliciting help to find a cat named Pippin I could not help but pass it along here. If any you have seen this handsome gent with “bright green eyes”, an “oatmeal-gray” coat and “chipped front right fang” or know of his whereabouts please contact his people at the above telephone numbers. Thanks!

P.S.: This post goes out to the peeps at Boing Boing for linking to my “Edie’s Big Adventure” post. The resulting traffic was enough to crash my server. Thanks for the blog love guys (and gals)!
From The New York Shitty Inbox: Take The Bodega Challenge!
Filed under: 11211, 11222, Brooklyn, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, New York City, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
This item comes courtesy of L Magazine’s publicist: a gentleman named Dan. He writes:
Us here at Electric Orange are fellow Greenpointers, and check out NY Shitty on daily basis. We do a lot of stuff online with development, promotions and such, but our favorite work tends to be around the neighborhood. One of our local clients (The L Magazine) has a pretty rad promotion going on right now that I wanted to tell you about. It centers around the local bodega, and they are going to be crowning the best reader submitted NYC bodega come December. The person who submits the winning entry will get their favorite beer hand-delivered to them by The L, from their bodega, for a week.
We have so many great bodegas in Greenpoint, so I wanted to pass this along to you and your readers.
Indeed. What’s more, 42 bottles of beer is pretty darned sweet way to kick of the holiday season! You can learn more about this contest by pointing and clicking your way to L Magazine’s web site. NOTE: the deadline for submissions is December 17th.

Crosstown Local Photo Du Jour: Edie Rides The G!
I don’t know about you but I simply cannot get enough of Edie, the strap-hanging hamster. For this reason you can imagine my surprise when I spotted her last Saturday night riding the pride and joy of the New York City subway system: the G train!
Where was Edie headed? Stay tuned and find out!

Williamsburg Gentrification Watch: Biergarten Brunch With Santa!
Filed under: 11211, 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
It’s a little known fact but Mister Heather was once “Santa” at a local business in Greenpoint. Granted, he was not drunk while discharging his duties (or sported a salmon under his beard) but he needed a stiff one shortly thereafter. For this reason I find the following event, which comes courtesy of north Brooklyn’s very own Town Square, truly innovative!
BEER AND BRUNCH WITH SANTA! Per the above flier:
…What’s that sound? Is it the jingle of Santa’s bells? Guess what kids? Santa is coming to Williamsburg for a delicious brunch at Radegast Hall & Biergarten!

Williamspoint Slide Show Du Jour: 2001-2004 B.C.
Filed under: 11211, 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Street Art, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
The above photograph is probably in some part responsible for motivating me to write about Greenpoint. Like most things in my life, it was an accident. I had shot a roll of film, then 9/11 happened. Not having the means to buy more film I rewound it, thus creating this double exposure of life on Manhattan Avenue juxtaposed with Manhattan going black.
I do not want to suggest that this photo set is dark. It isn’t. The Garden Spot of the Universe and the people who live here are resilient and vibrant. But it does make one wonder about how things have changed since these photographs were taken.
My favorite is this one, lest you are wondering.

Williamspoint Slide Show Du Jour: Old School
Filed under: 11211, 11222, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
This weekend yours truly has been getting caught up on a few things I have been meaning to do, but have never gotten around to doing. One of these tasks has been organizing, scanning and uploading my collection of photographs from Williamspoint of yesteryear (such as the rather awesome one which graces the beginning of this post). I am proud to announce that I have begun this arduous process. Follows is a slide show featuring what I have processed so far. Enjoy!
As the previous sentence indicates, I am far from done with this project. You can anticipate more great old pictures in the (hopefully) near future! Tomorrow I will be featuring another slide show of some of my photographs taken in Williamspoint from 2001-2004 B.C. (before the real estate crash). Boy, how things have changed!

Reader Contribution Du Jour: Change Has Come
Filed under: 11211, 11222, 11231, Bushwick, Bushwick Brooklyn, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
This item comes courtesy of a friend of mine named Matt:
Hey there Heather! I know you don’t normally post much in the way of music videos but I thought I’d pass this onto you since a) I shot it and b) a lot of it was shot in Greenpoint/Williamsburg/Bushwick in front of a lot of the graffiti murals out there. At the very least, I hope you enjoy it!

Duly enjoyed, Matt. Thanks for sharing! Those of you who want to hear more of Will Pilot’s music can do so via their Myspace page.
