Overheard In Williamsburg: Glass Houses
Ordinarily I would hand something like this off to my friends at Overheard In New York but this one is too damned good NOT to post here. Sorry folks!
I was walking down Roebling Street at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon when a group of 15-something young men rounded the corner and proceeded to walk in front of me. I was trying not to pay attention to what they were talking about but after I overheard the following corker I was hooked:
…(she) said don’t throw rocks if you live in a glass house. I don’t live in a glass house; I live in the projects. That’s what I told the teacher!
God I love teenagers.

For the newer readers out there, every year starting around this time I run daily photographs of Christmas decor from my community. Kicking off this, 2009’s selections, are a quartet hailing from Williamspoint’s main drags. Enjoy!

This post goes out to Greenpoint’s most famous citizen, Edie the strap-hanging hamster. It may have taken a brain trust years to build the Internet, but it only took one very cute rodent to crash my site. Repeatedly.

P.S.: This post goes out to Posterchild. It would appear I have become his muse.
In regards to the above opus he wrote:
In the course of researching this work, I discovered that machines like the one I’m describing already exist. They are known as “Reverse Vending Machines†and I think that they are an absolutely outstanding idea!
Special thanks to Miss Heather of New York Shitty for inspiring this piece; she wrote to me: “You should hit some of the pay phones in my hood. They’re usually employed as trash receptacles for empty fifths of vodka and/or brandy. Among other things.â€
Thanks for getting me thinking about how people really use these payphones, and sorry that this didn’t make it’s way out to Greenpoint!
160 North 12 Street PSA: No Peeing Please

Upside down or otherwise I can personally attest that there is a public urination problem with this site. It makes me wonder what will happen when this site reaches fruition as a seven story hotel/ad hoc pissoir.
