Williamsburg Street Art Du Jour: North 7 Street

Amusing enough, next to this assemblage is a sign prohibiting material being left in front of the building.

They never thought to prohibit stuff being left ON said building.

So the learning curve goes in northside Williamsburg.

From The Greenpoint Grapevine: What’s Up At Silent h?

January 20, 2010 ·

What’s curious about this item is while my tipster is in Greenpoint, the establishment in question is in Williamsburg. It happens to involve one of my favorite restaurants: Silent h. Here’s the buzz:

Silent h is closed. A new partner has been brought on board, they are going to changeĀ  the menu and give the place a make-over.

I decided to do a walk-by today to see what’s up.

Sure enough, the storefront is shuttered.

And there is evidence of interior work being done.

Anyone have the 411 as to what is going on here? I’m dying to know.

(going into garden spring roll withdrawal)

When I saw this my jaw dropped. I was literally speechless. This is really saying something since I usually have a lot to say. Some could argue (successfully) that I have too much to say. Not this time. Anyone out there have a caption for this lovely item? If so, please tender them via comments or email at:

I look forward to seeing what you guys and gals cook up. Methinks I’ll offer a prize of a 8″ x 12″ print of the winner’s choice. Get cracking Greenpointers and Williamsburgers!

This item (which hails from the intersection of Metropolitan Avenue and Berry Street) comes courtesy of a lady named Donna. What really makes this image if you ask me are the remains of a flier from Diana Reyna’s latest (and I will add successful) run for the 34th City Council seat. This somehow pulls it all together. Great find, Donna!

The above gent with an overbite may not look familiar to you, but I am pretty certain you have heard about him. He is none other than the pooch who discovered Sidney Lumet’s Lifetime Achievement Award in a bit of Greenpoint shrubbery: Fred T. Sanford!

Like it or hate it, you have to give the artist responsible for this points for chutzpah. It hails from Metropolitan Avenue. Literally. Follows are a few other works I have found during my travels in north Brooklyn by this same person. Enjoy!

LAST GASP: A Moment of Williamsburg Zen

While most of you were probably off work and having fun today I was busy. VERY BUSY. I will probably continue to be busy well into the night. I need relief. Preferably comic relief. Thanks to Meredith I got it.

She writes:

It is a fishing stringer (heavy duty) , a red baron plastic airplane, a set of bubba teeth, a wise man, and a stuffed toy hung on a preexisting painting. It’s pretty great.

Whenever someone evokes “Bubba teeth” I think about the time my buddy Rachael went to the Mark Bar sporting a set. As she was talking to a fellow bar patron they fell out of her mouth and into her drink. Without a second thought she retrieved them and stuck them back into her mouth. Much to the other woman’s dismay.

Thanks Meredith. I needed this!
