Southside Restaurant Watch: Carino Restaurant & Cantina
Today when I walked by 82 South 4 Street, the site of Latitude Zero I noticed, well, that it wasn’t there. This place will soon be Carino. Curious to know what gives I asked a gentleman on site. He happened to be one of the owners— and a really nice guy.
Here’s the scoop: Carino is the brainchild of the former managers of the now defunct Bonita. They have brought together much of the staff from the latter establishment and hope to open on April 27. The possible hang-up: they need to install the dishwasher and build customized shelving around it so as to be “up to code”. That’s it. All the necessary permits are in place.
But let’s get down to brass tacks. I asked this gentlemen:
Will you be serving cheese enchiladas?
His answer: YES!
And so my quest for a decent cheese enchilada marches bravely (and optimistically) forward…

Williamsburg Photos Du Jour: Life Goes On
Luis Rivera might be gone, but life has gone on at Bedford Avenue and North 1st Street. Not only is north Brooklyn’s favorite gorilla looking pretty dapper nowadays but it would appear he is looking for a little online companionship! In all seriousness, I am really happy to see this Bedford Avenue institution continue.
