Williamsburg Video Du Jour: Après Moi le Deluge

As yours truly inexorably creeps closer to middle age, I have achieved a certain level of acceptance about life. For example:

  1. I have grown to accept I will never be a millionaire. Money always has been and always will be a concern for me.
  2. I will never win the Nobel Prize. Not that I have really tried, mind you. I am, by my own admission a colossal UNDERachiever.
  3. I have pretty much (by)passed all the milestones people hold near and dear. All I have left to do is die— which brings me to the video you just watched.

I would like to take a moment to applaud the New York City Parks Department for awakening me from my existentialist funk by reminding me that I am in no hurry whatsoever to accomplish point #3. In fact, I have never felt so alive as I did this afternoon while patronizing this public lavatory at Jamie Campiz Playground and praying to god* I would not be electrocuted.

Sincerely grateful,

Miss Heather

*Given I am an agnostic this is truly noteworthy.

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Another Party At 66 North 1 Street?

Night before last I could not for the life of me fall— and STAY— asleep. I attribute the latter to our furkid, Jerzy. He has recently decided that the wee hours of the morning are “play time”. All I am going to say it’s a damned good thing the little fella is cute. Sadly , the same cannot be said about the following batch of night owls. M writes:

dear miss heather

thank you for your help last time, i appreciate it. it is 1:47 a.m. and there is another party in the same unrented condo building at 66 North 1st street.  this time people are inside all the unrented apartments, some have red lights on, and there are people on the roof ( last time it was just the courtyard)  i called the police and they said they already had complaints and a car was on the way but they said this last time and nothing happened until 8 am.  i am praying this is not a repeat.

i went over and the people were not at all friendly and one of them said “this is dumbo” (!!! —Ed. Note) so they are also geographically challenged.  i told them i had called the police and this made them a little nervous but they have not turned the music down.

i have no idea who is throwing the party, but i think it’s a security guard on the take.  i think the developer must not have taken the complaints seriously last time.  the crowd is younger and more mixed this time, including a lot of Hispanic teenagers, a very different crowd than last time.  no boas were spotted.

Now jump forward to this morning. A photograph of said festivities was awaiting my delectation.

Another anonymous tipster writes:

I’m sure people who are buying these condos would love to know people have been partying in them first.

Indeed! I wonder what’s next for this— Williamsburg’s most swingingest nondo— a casino, perhaps? If any of you, dear readers, can think of other more compelling alternative uses for this repurposed piece of residential property please share them via the comments. The best submission will win a (to be determined) prize.

Hi Miss Heather,

First of all, thank you so much for posting about last week’s event! We had a good turn out, but we still have lots of adorable cats and kittens waiting to find homes. This Saturday we are having another bigger event with all our adoptable kitties and a bake sale. The event will be at 95 North 6th Street in Williamsburg from 2-6pm.

If you don’t mind posting about another cat related event, we’d really appreciate your help, and it would be wonderful if you could stop by!

Duly posted! As to whether or not I can swing by, who’s to say? I have a very busy weekend ahead of me!

From The New York Shitty Inbox, Part II: Support The Bedbug Law

I rarely repost press releases verbatim but given the subject matter of this one (which comes from our very own State Assemblyman, Joe Lentol) well, let’s just say it will be of great interest to a great many north Brooklynites.

You can shoot David Paterson an email encouraging him to make this bill a law by clicking here.

Donations Wanted: BARC Fundraiser

As many of you reading this are probably aware, yours truly has a fondness for fur kids. This is especially true of cats. For this reason I feel compelled to pass along that BARC is seeking donations of art for their upcoming fundraiser. Julie writes:

Just to confirm, the event is scheduled for Monday, September 13th at My Two Dogs, 434 Manhattan Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222 (718-963-0400).

The time will be from 7 PM until approximately 10 PM.  Any artwork that artists would like to donate can be dropped off at BARC Shelter, 253 Wythe Ave,  or I can arrange to pick it up.  BARC hours are Tues-Sat from 12-5.

The event is free for people who just want to attend.  If someone wants to bring home a piece of artwork they’ll donate $250 and they’ll select the piece they want (names of all the people who donate $250 go into a jar and are picked at random- first name picked selects first and so on).

I have been advised that any and all artists donating work should attach a piece of paper to their work with the following information:

  1. their name
  2. their email address (NOTE: this is for BARC’s purposes only.)
  3. name of the piece (if there is one)
  4. media used in the piece

The deadline for submissions is September 1st, so any and all interested in submitting work should get hustling!
