One has to admire the evocative word-smithing and brutal honesty employed in this missive. I can only imagine the series of events that came to pass so as to require such a policy. I am not sure I want to know. If I ever find my person in need of “work wear”, I am totally taking my business to this establishment. Well done, Zoe’s!

The anti-Airbnb rhetoric at the Greenpoint Avenue stop of the Crosstown Local continues! I am certain this sterling operation will be pleased that as of midnight, July 26th, service will be suspended for five whole weeks. I imagine this will buy them some (more) time to hire more lobbyists and retool their laughably bad advertising campaign? Maybe they’ll even read this? I can only hope so…

Although located in the East Village, I am certain plenty of folks on this side of the East River (especially those who reside in Williamsburg and along Franklin Street) can relate to what is being attempted here: a cordon sanitaire so folks who reside in the adjacent building do not have ingress and egress precluded by patrons of the establishment next door.
Sadly, it appears to be about as effective as its namesake.
Update, June 29th: I stand corrected! A fellow named Robert writes:
Your posts are usually on the money. This post:Is totally wrong, sadly; It’s not a resident line, or anything; Abraço opened up a little 2nd market store, roughly 6 doors down: the pink line is in fact a number of arrows leading their customers down the street.(I was there yesterday)

Hi Heather! This email is part 1 of 2.
Maybe you’ve already spotted this but I wanted to share. CVS fires a shot across Chopin’s prow….
…Sunshine Laundromat responds the way they do best – with a smart ass sign.
Well played, Sunshine Laundromat!
UPDATE, 8:09 pm:
It would appear Sunshine Laundromat is hosting a Cinco De Mayo event. Admission is free and BYOD (Bring Your Own Dog).
Williamsburg Photos Du Jour: Blue Chip Bloomblight
Filed under: 11211, Bloomblight, Street Art, Street Justice, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn, Wow, WTF
This vision (which hails from Hooper Street and Borinquen Place— its address per the Department of Buildings is 395 Hooper Street lest anyone is curious) is without argument one of the finest examples of Bloomblight yours truly has ever encountered. Not surprisingly it has a standing Stop Work Order. I would hazard to say that the owner of this property has, in fact, obeyed it. Perhaps a little too well. In any case, it bears all the characteristics I have come to expect from a derelict construction site (and I can assure you, gentle readers, yours truly has grown to be quite picky— this is because I have a vast selection from which to choose). To name a few:
- A collapsed construction fence
- Ample amounts of detritus
- Signs of habitation (I confess I am quite envious of the office chairs— but not so much so as to venture in and take one)
- Graffiti (Amusingly enough, the piece by $howta is arguably its only redeeming quality.) And my personal favorite…
- an inspired, if futile, use of “Caution” tape.
Truly magnificent, I must say. I suppose it will come as a surprise to no one that recently a complaint was filed regarding this property.
It’ll be interesting to see if/when any action will be taken. Hopefully this blog post will help serve to push things forward. Otherwise (and one a somewhat related note) I have at long last posted some updates regarding my snow globe project. These you can see here. Methinks this bad boy just made it to the list…
The Word On The Street: The People Have Spoken (Once Again)

Today yours truly opted to take a brief constitutional around north ‘Point. As I did I noticed that Charles Hynes, or more specifically his supporters, have seen fit to press the manifold number of construction fences hereabouts into service as billboards. The above missive can be found on Green Street between Manhattan Avenue and Franklin Street. I just about shot coffee out of my nose when I read the tag line at the bottom:
Do not let political corruption take over the DA’s Office
Excuse me if I am wrong here but I suspect the reason Mr. Hynes was defeated, by quite a commanding margin I’ll add, by Ken Thompson in the Democratic Primary was due to the fact folks hereabouts are tired of political corruption in the Brooklyn DA’s office. Then again, it has been established that Mr. Hynes does not seem to see it this way. That’s why he is running as a Republican. But I digress.
When I reached Greenpoint Avenue I was faced with this fellow’s visage once more. I was like:
Enough is enough.
And proceeded across the street to tear these damned things down. As I got closer I made an amusing discovery— one which made me reconsider my “plan of action”. It made me smile— and proud to be a Greenpointer!
Well done, anonymous Greenpoint hooligan. WELL DONE!
UPDATE, 6:06 p.m.: It has been brought to my attention that SANO (whose sign can been seen on the fence on Green Street) has had its license revoked for non-payment of taxes. Don’t take my word for it:
