Charles le Brigand (who took the above photograph) writes:
After reading that this magnificent 9-story abandoned building will soon become a luxurious hotel called the Beeckman Palace, I have decided to contact the developer to see if he would eventually let me in…which he did, after throwing him a couple of bucks. I have to say that legal urban exploration is definitely not comparable to the adrenaline rush caused by trespassing. That said, the place is located only a few blocks away from Wall Street and the area is under heavy surveillance these days due to the Occupy Wall St protests. Anyway, The Atrium was an absolute gem and undeniably well worth the “admission fee”.

New York Shitty Day Starter: Lenny
Chris Arnade (who took the above photograph) writes:
I ran into Lenny as I was walking home from work. Born and still a resident of the Bronx, he was walking back home from the Occupy Wall Street protest. He asked if I could buy him a beer. I agreed, but only if I got half of it. We brown bagged it and walked together a few blocks before parting ways.
