Greenpoint Photo Du Jour: Peter Pan Bakery
I guess it’s still a “secret” if a lowly blogger writes about/reviews it first. In any case I’m glad Peter Pan Bakery got some well-deserved publicity for this fine creation. They deserve it.

The two previous photographs represent only a fraction of fliers I found in Williamsburg today regarding the disappearance of little Lou-Lou. Although I do not want to come off as blaming the victim the sad reality is dog theft (for reward money/resale) is a serious problem in north Brooklyn: always keep a watchful on eye on your canine companions. And please, please, please, collar and microchip your pets. It’s the responsible thing to do.
This having been written, if you know anything about Diamond Street’s found ferret or Lou-Lou please contact the folks at the above-listed phone numbers.
Thanks!

It would appear that despite torrential rain, stifling heat and lack of valid permits— a place so special that Joey Arak over at Curbed called it:
…the strangest construction project in Greenpoint…
keeps on keeping on! What’s more, who can’t get teary eyed at the sight of the stars and stripes flying proudly atop of this shitheap. Anyone care to bet on how many stories will be completed before the Department of Buildings issues a Stop Work Order?

This item comes courtesy of the Editor of Staccato Magazine, an online periodical featuring “microfiction”. Matt writes:
Hi Miss Heather-
First of all, I love your site. I live in Greenpoint and really enjoy seeing pictures of our neighborhood (for better or worse), and you did a great job covering the shootings at the Production Lounge and Club Exit.
I wanted to send you this note about a new website I just launched. I know it’s not necessarily what you normally cover, but maybe you think it’s newsworthy since we’re based out of Greenpoint and hope to have some events at WORD or Matchless or other local places once we get some momentum.
At the very least, check it out yourself and let me know what you think.
Well, I checked it out— and despite being a non-fiction devotee (real life is much, much more interesting in my opinion)— methinks this is a wonderful way for aspiring (or established) writers in the 11222 and beyond to get their work out there. Any and all who are interested in submitting work should read Staccato’s guidelines and “About” page.
Happy writing— and good luck, Matt!

Every so often I like to create assignments for myself. This, my latest one, came the way they usually do: via a flight of fancy. One day I wondered to myself if Greenpoint, the Garden Spot of the Universe— and patron par excellence to the aluminum siding industry— sported a rainbow assortment of siding products. What you have just seen, dear readers, is the result of one month’s worth of research. There is only one conclusion that can be drawn from the copious amount photographic evidence/data I have collected: yes!

You know its a hot day in the Garden Spot when you see the virgin Mary knocking back an ice cold Pepsi. It’s the choice of an immaculate generation!

MISSING IN GREENPOINT: Bike
Filed under: 11222, Criminal Activity, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic
Inasmuch as it pains me to say it, you sort of have to admire someone who has the chutzpah to pull this off. Destruction of public property (a stop sign, no less!) while committing theft does not strike me as being the stuff of practicing amateurs. This must be one hell of a bike. One which I ask, dear readers, if you have seen or know of its whereabouts please contact its rightful owner at the above telephone number.
Thanks!
