Urban Fur: Going Out Of Business

bartek

Bartek presides over the final day of his place of emplnjoyment: Just For Fun. For those of you who are not in the know this establishment (which has graced the Garden Spot for over a decade) has been a personal favorite of yours truly over the years. Whenever I needed, say, several pairs of fake giant rubber breasts or the odd inflatable companion they delivered— with a smile and the occasional bark. I was so impressed I authored my first Yelp review as a result. Read it. (It is a much more awesome testament to this establishment than this post).

So long Barbara and Bartek. May you enjoy your retirement in sunny Florida. You will be missed.

Quicklink: Much Ado About The Monitor Museum

NYTIMESsc

As it would happen I bumped into George and Janice yesterday while running errands. They are lovely people and are very dedicated to making this museum happen. We talked about the recent problems the Monitor Museum is facing. Namely: the threat of eminent domain. In this tome they make a very salient point: why are they being threatened with eminent domain when a number of much larger (and quite frankly: more important) parcels have yet to be acquired? The CitiStorage site (for which its owners are demanding a draconian sum*) immediately comes to mind. Why hasn’t eminent domain been invoked there? These are all very good questions.

In any case, do give this a read and draw your own conclusions Garden Spotters!

Greenpoint Photos Du Jour: Sign Of The Times

ctown

I discovered today the C-Town on Manhattan Avenue has seen fit to establish a few rules for its clientele.

NO:

  • Skateboarding
  • Bicycle Riding
  • Rollerblading
  • Scooter Riding

I know what you’re thinking:

There’s no way someone would see fit to ride a scooter in a supermarket. This is just common sense.

As I discovered February 18th, common sense (or courtesy) ain’t as common as it is purported to be…
