Word Of The Day: Craftsmanship
For those of you who are wondering what caliber of workmanship $400,000 – $500,000 will purchase in Greenpoint nowadays the following images (taken of the Viridian on Thanksgiving Day) should prove to be quite illuminating.
The previous craptastic footage begs the following tantalizing question:
If these defects are clearly visible to passersby, what other latent defects does this development sport?
I suppose when one is paying for amenities like virtual golf, a gazing pool, rooftop cabanas (which I have been told have a splendid view of the shit tits) and a concierge such trivialities don’t really matter.

From Mackerelville To Dangertown

Lest you think you think you have little to be thankful for this Thanksgiving Day my fellow Greenpointers, life could be much, much worse. The Garden Spot of the Universe did not have a very happy turkey day 125 years ago. Don’t believe me? Read this article from the November 29, 1883 edition Brooklyn Daily Eagle and see for yourself.
What constituted “Dangertown” here in 11222, you ask? I’m saving that for an extra juicy post! Otherwise lest any of you are wondering “Crow Hill” is now known as Crown Heights. It was given this moniker because it was an African-American community. And next year we will have an African-American president. How times have changed— for the better!
Be kind to your neighbors today. Love them for who they are, not what they are. We’re all in this together.

Thanksgiving, Black Friday And Beyond!
First off, busy or forgetful oenophiles in Greenpoint will be happy to know Dandelion Wine will be open today from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. to serve your vino needs!

I don’t know about you, but the one thing I really love about New York City on a holiday weekend is the peace and quiet: e.g.; the two percenters are out of town! What’s more, there’s no need to go to Manhattan to do your holiday shopping this weekend. There’s plenty of action here in north(ish) Brooklyn. Fuck chain stores! Here are a couple (more) places you can get your gift-giving on. And benefit small businesses to boot!
Miss Wit (the brains behind this shirt and bona fide Sunset Parker to boot) will be at large at the ‘Flea this Sunday. Or you can make her acquaintance the previous day in *sniff* Manhattan.
If it doesn’t involve riding the G train I am not interested. 99.44% of what’s worthwhile in life is the journey, not the destination. Anyone who has patronized the Crosstown Local as long (or longer) than I have will tell you this.

Last— but hardly least— Greenpoint’s very own Dalaga is having a sale. With champagne, no less! Per their press release:
Come on in and don’t worry about the cold… we will be serving champagne Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to warm you up. Let’s get this gorgeous holiday started!
Indeed.

Free champagne = I’m there!

Happy Thanksgiving From New York Shitty!

It is the stroke of midnight and I’m still cookin’ and a cleanin’. I was chopping up jalapenos earlier this evening and listening to the Beastie Boys. That’s when it hit me: the following song would be the perfect way to usher in this Thanksgiving Day. Gratitude: Brooklyn style!
More Turkey Day goodness to come. Now if you don’t mind I’m going to tend my beans.

Curious Happenings At Ichiran
On Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 at 11:45 a.m. I wrote:
After serving up free samples of soup last year and months of inactivity, something appears to be happening at 1013 Manhattan Avenue. Will Ichiran be opening for business soon? If so, will it be a ramen shop? I do not know. But this storefront has been open the last three days and signs of human activity have been noted…
Check out this post on Williamsburg Is Dead. It looks like Ichiran will be gracing us with its presence. And soon!
Well it’s three months later and it would appear they have taken another (albeit odd) baby step towards opening.
It just gets curiouser and curiouser. In any case anyone interested in registering should make their way down to 1013 Manhattan Avenue without delay and fill out a registration form.

Today In Bad Photoshop News

When it comes bad Photoshoppery I am not the most observant person. This goes double when it comes to spying such specimens in our city’s subway system; I am more intent on not touching anything than calling out some nameless, faceless graphic designer for his or her misdeeds. The previous having been said I feel compelled to pass this item along.
This poster graces the Queens-bound platform of the Crosstown Local at Greenpoint Avenue. While I have not seen this movie I can deduce (from this poster) that it involves large quantities of stuff being blown up or otherwise rendered fucked up beyond recognition.
Except for these light fixtures. As you can see despite not being affixed to anything they’re fighting gravity quite admirably.
You can even see where the fixtures used to be here. Whoops.

A Little Holiday Shopping
After spending at least five hours in the kitchen yesterday and knowing full well I will be doing the same today suffice it to say yours truly is more than a little unmotivated. In any case follows are few upcoming holiday shopping events which might be of interest.
I have been long remiss in giving Tommy and Roy (AKA: the Alter boys) a shout out. Today I wish to correct this egregious oversight on my part by passing along the deets about their upcoming “Thanksgiving Weekend Sale”. And oh yeah, pointing out that I am totally in love with this item which I found on their web site. Check it out!
20% Off Sale At Alter
November 28-30th, 2008
140 Franklin Street
Brooklyn, New York 11222
This item comes courtesy of Bitchcakes. Cafe Grumpy will be hosting another “Hearts & Crafts” affair this holiday season. Hopefully I’ll make it to this one. If the wares for sale are even a fraction as nifty as their flier I am certain I will NOT be disappointed!

But back to events I have attended in previous years.
I purchased some incredibly fun items last year’s holiday craft fair. I will probably do so again this year. Take my word for it: this event is worth schlepping over to 195 Morgan Avenue.

Last up, the Gift On Grand will be throwing another giftstravaganza at Secret Project Robot. My advice about this event: ARRIVE EARLY. It gets packed.

Interesting Consumer Item Of The Day
The above assortment of products hail from the bodega at the corner of Greenpoint Avenue and Franklin Street.
A number of aromas come to mind when I hear the word “baby”. None of them are particularly appetizing.
