Spotted On Manhattan Avenue: Moondog*

Fact learned yesterday evening while crossing Manhattan Avenue: apparently wearing some hybrid of a Mongolian and Viking helmet absolves you of obeying traffic laws. I realize the photographs are not great. I can assure there is a reason for this:
- I was crossing the street in accordance with the traffic signal.
- The above woman (who clearly had no intention of stopping) narrowly avoided hitting yours truly.
- Instead, she veered into oncoming traffic on India Street where she almost hit a motorist (who was following the traffic laws and actually got out of her way).
This is how you become a statistic folks…
*For those of you who are not in the know as to who this fellow is, this should clear things up.

Special thanks go out to Drake’s “person”, M & W Laundromat’s very own Miriam, for coaxing a pose!

Urban Fur: Manhattan Avenue
This magnificent beast’s place of enjoyment is the Mini Mart at 711 Manhattan Avenue. As you can see she opted to spend this lovely day in the shade watching the world go by. And, as I learned, I too was being watched. Noticing my interest in this comely cat a few fellows decided to give her head rubs and yours truly a little art direction. More specifically: they wanted me to shoot a photo of her from this angle.
We all agreed this one did not quite work.
She stopped being cute.
One of my collaborators noted. To wit I replied:
Of course she stopped being cute. She’s a cat. If you want cuteness on demand ask a dog.

A fellow named James writes:
Hi Heather, this is James Jones. I’ve lived on Green St. for a very long time and I’m a big fan of Newyorkshitty.com. I am a filmmaker and a few months ago I had a chance to interview Steven Goldsholle, of Goldscholle plumbing on Manhattan Avenue, a few days before he closed his business down. I made several film shorts from the interview. He talks about how Greenpoint has changed, the store’s history and his plans for retirement. If you think any of this may be of interest to your readers, please feel free to provide a link to this channel or one of the films. Either way, I’ll keep reading! Thanks.
Naturally I am not going to pass up a chance to share this. Without further ado, let ’em roll!

Thanks so much for sharing this with me, James! A great many of us, including of course the local canines, miss us some Steve.

Sometimes the photograph isn’t quite right…
but the love makes up for it. I love a man who loves animals. Sweet!
