This just goes to show to go how great of a city this is: you can get anything delivered by simply placing a phone call. Even “white pussy”.
Next Week: The Williamsburg Hotel Presents
Filed under: 11222, 11249, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
This comes from none other than the SLA and Public Safety Committee Co-Chair himself: Tom Burrows. Those of you who have had enough— or cannot get enough— hotels hereabouts take note. On Monday, January 12th at Greenpoint’s very own Mary D’s Senior Center 96 Wythe Acquisition LLC dba “The Williamsburg Hotel” (whose endeavor has been given letters of support by both Councilman Levin and Assemblyman Lentol) will be giving a presentation. Public comments and questions are encouraged. New York Shitty tip: ask them about their proposed Hotel Loading Zones and No Standing Zones and how they are going to balance public space for 642 people against a parking lot with only twenty spaces.
Cheers!
Williamsburg Hotel Presentation

Yet another “news” item about the Salvation Army’s “boutique” store in “trendy” Greenpoint. I have refrained from blogging this “news” because quite frankly it is not. News.
It is gentrification porn. It is click-bait. It is easier than, say, writing about a beloved (and rare) water tower’s “character” being painted over. Or even a fatal stabbing on Dupont Street (Which DNA.info reported).
What seems to be lost by the various media outlets writing about this “news” is the fact the Salvation Army did not simply “pretty up” the space. They also saw fit to “pretty up” the staff. You know, so as to make the place more “palatable” for someone who would pay $3.00 for “curated” LPs.* $250.00 for a bookcase which could be easily had elsewhere. Cheaper.
Gone are the employees I loved bantering with/backing up in verbal disputes over prices from disgruntled “customers”. I guess they did not make the “boutique” cut. The former manager had such an elegant, beautifully Caribbean, slightly French-inflected; polite way of telling miscreants to, well, using my vocabulary:
Fuck off.
She was smart. Probably too smart.
The first person who really taught me the “value” of telling someone to fuck off was “Sammy”. He worked at this same Salvation Army store in 2000. Methinks the Village Voice (when they actually had balls) wrote a profile of him. What I do know is he once had to deal with two women disputing over who got to buy a certain a certain ceramic figurine. He resolved this problem employing Solomon-like wisdom by throwing it on the floor and rendering it into smithereens. Problem solved.
“Sammy” resided at the Greenpoint Hotel. Back then the “Greenpoint Hotel” had a very curious rule: you can stay there for three weeks only. The fourth you must leave. This was, of course, to skirt the four week rule of SRO residents being rent-stabilized.
When my grandmother and her sister died (within weeks of each other) who did I ask to “house sit” my apartment/cats? Sammy, of course. He confessed to me later he played his guitar and watched porn. So be it. I like honesty.
Sammy died a few years ago. I miss him.

New York Shitty Photo Du Jour: We’re Not In Brooklandia Anymore

From today’s trip to two “Little Italies”. I told the Mister this was the antithesis of Lumbersexualism. He agreed. When I thought further about it (given “trends” in north Brooklyn) this could be a moneymaker.
The key is “re-branding”. Make tattooing your head to look like you have a shaved head (sans male pattern baldness) be “cool”, “hip” and “hep” on purpose! I predict a big market for this in North Brooklyn in five years. Ten at most. Just imagine the money you’ll save on hats.
Anyone?
New York Shitty Slide Show Du Jour: New Year’s Day, North Brooklyn Style

As promised, here is a slide show featuring items of interest I encountered while take a New Year’s Day stroll around points Green and beyond. When I left the apartment the Mister wished me luck in my hunt for “barfcicles”. He’s thoughtful that way. What’s more, it must have worked because it did not take me long to find one. Actually, it is more like barf buckshot.
NOTE: I elected to be somewhat judicious when selecting curating material encountered in Williamsburg (Bedford Avenue in particular) as it is pretty much trashed on any given weekend. Enjoy!
Have a shot of post-New Year’s Eve debauchery? I would very much like to see it! You can kick ’em over to my photo pool or via email at missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog (dot) com.
Happy New Year From New York Shitty!
As is usually the case, I indulged in an informal New York Shitty New Year’s tradition. This of course is going to bed early New Year’s Eve so as to get up, go out and review the aftermath of north Brooklyn’s “festivities”. As you see, I was not disappointed. What initially caught my interest (naturally) was the artful array of bottle caps and solitary dinosaur on the fender. When I noticed the automobile had two, um, “inhabitants” well this had to be documented for posterity. At least they elected not to drive. Hence why I elected to blur out the license plates, registration, etc. I suspect the hangovers, sore backs and (probably) dead car battery are “punishment” enough for last night’s “merrymaking”/transgressions.
I will be uploading photos of my findings (there is vomit, discarded clothing— socks mostly, for some reason— hypodermic needles and even a partially incinerated box spring) in a bit— so check back!
