Spotted On Greenpoint Avenue: Urban Fauna

Although I have said it before, I’ll say it again: one of the things I truly love about living in Greenpoint (and new York City, for that matter) is you can walk down the same street a hundred times and still discover something new. Today I walked down Greenpoint Avenue. This I have done many times. Across the street from our local Waste Water Treatment Facility I spied a piece of wall which had undergone repair. The end result struck me as looking a lot like a deer*— so I went in for a closer look. I was not the only who noticed this because, as you can plainly see, this bit of urban fauna has been appointed with not only an eye but also legs! Love it!

*Or a dog— take your pick.

New York Shitty Day Starter: Waterfront Feral Furniture Watch

The Java Street “Pop-Up Park” non-materialistic sofa is still there…

albeit with some additional “wear and tear”.

In all seriousness, folks: this “park” (to my understanding) was funded by $15,000 generously donated by our Borough President. He entrusted OSA, Open Space Alliance North Brooklyn, with these funds to (ostensibly) create a park in partnership with the owner of the property.

This is what we got. And to think some of my neighbors are actually surprised— much less outraged— that McCarren Park is not getting an ice rink this winter? Really?
