From The New York Shitty Inbox: More Ado About Belvedere
Remember Anonymous, who was interested in purchasing a condo at Belvedere at XXVII? Well, he has done his homework and the prognosis looks good. For the most part. He writes:
Hope you’re enjoying a good new year.
I did my hw with the dob and while a belvedere property had construction workers urinating out the 3rd floor window (emphasis mine — Ed. Note), I didn’t see structural issues.
Pencil lofts have halted construction.
I’d break even with this purchase within two years vs renting.
I’ve been advised that locals may be anti cookie cutter condos due to the detractmemt of a neighborhood feel. I know newyorkshitty.com is unbiased, so would you truly advise not to pull the trigger on this?
#1. Anonymous you are too kind: I am by my own admission biased against these properties.
#2. Especially when they are built by construction “professionals” who piss from third story windows. That’s just plain nasty!
Look at it this way: if the gentlemen working on this site have been observed urinating al fresco, it begs the question (in my mind, anyway) as to what they have been doing indoors— if you know what I mean.* The previous caveat having been written, I am happy you did your homework (even if I disagree with your decision) and it might be a good idea for you to have an inspector give the property a once-over before signing anything. Better safe than sorry.
Good luck— and welcome to the neighborhood!
Miss Heather
*I had to bust your chops over that one, Anonymous. That is simply too gross.
THIS WEEK: Coming Down!
All good things must come to an end. For this reason I wanted to remind everyone that this upcoming Thursday, January 7, 2010 will be the closing date for my show of photography, Brookland, at t.b.d. Quite frankly I am a little “festivitied out” after the holidays but will be there from 7:30 – 8:30p.m. to meet and greet folks, sign pieces for those who have purchased them and hopefully sell a few more! Those of you who have the time and the inclination to brave this frigid weather please swing by and say “hi”. I’d love to meet you!
My Closing Reception
January 7, 2010; 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.

New York Shitty Day Starter: Oak Street Kittens Update
Filed under: 11222, Crazy Cat Lady, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic
The sick ones were nowhere to be found, but here are their siblings.
Squinty.
Squinty’s sibling comes forth. Reluctantly.
People are leaving cans of food out for these kittens. What they need is TLC and a home. Anyone interested in adopting these kittens should contact me via email at missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog (dot) com. I’ll hook you up with the “owner” of these kittens.
Miss Heather
P.S.: Tipper too, who closely supervised my photo-shoot of her step-siblings. Someone adopt her. Please.
From The New York Shitty Inbox: 155 Calyer Gets SWO’ed
As some of you might remember last year I wrote about the immaculate demolition of 155 Calyer Street. A landmarked property. Well, I have been advised via comments and email the perpetrators, 155 Calyer LLC, have been served.
new writes on 12/31/09:
DOB dropped by this afternoon and posted a love note in the window..
C writes on 1/4/10:
155 calyer got a stop work order
Sure enough, per the Department of Building’s web site 155 Calyer has been served.
Note how the interior demolition is “80% complete”. I wonder what tipped them off?
Perhaps it was this hugeass dumpster out front?
Note how it is placed in a “No Parking” zone. It should also be noted this photograph was taken today, January 4, 2010: a Monday.
If you’re going to break one law, why not break a few more? You’ll get a slap on the proverbial (READ: financial) wrist. That’s the north Brooklyn way!

Greenpoint Photos Du Jour: 189 Green Street Revisited
As you can see, the Christmas display at 189 Green Street is even more spectacular in day light.
In fact, I’d go so far to say they have a jump on this year’s tree!
