As the above missives would indicate it was— and I am told still is— a very lively evening at the Swinging 60’s Seniors Center tonight. I did not stay for the whole affair (Sorry folks, but two hours of shouting and Ms. Thayer seemingly being unable to comprehend what nuance of the “discussion” was* is enough for yours truly. At least on six hours of sleep.) However, I did shoot footage of the first “half” and you can look forward to seeing it here, so check back!
In the meantime, here are a few teasers from before the meeting.
They were just getting warmed up, folks!

*READ: Quality of life issues arising as a result of these concerts and questions about what the costs of said concerts are versus their benefits. Ms, Thayer seemed to have some problems comprehending this and extolled upon the manifold ways OSA contributes to the betterment of parks in north Brooklyn. Community Board 1 Parks Chair Camponegro put it best when he said:
She’s doing her OSA spiel again.
New York Shitty Day Starter: Live From Community Board 1

I attended Tuesday’s Community Board 1 Meeting. Sadly, my five node unix cluster— or at least the part which allows them to “talk to each” other— died. So I have had to rely on my laptop. Uploading is a chore, but reading is no problem. Case in point:
You can read my colleague’s take on this, his special moment, here. The following is mine:
After Steve Levin voiced his opposition to the homeless assessment center at 400 McGuinness and stated there would be a rally there next week (I will post the details when I get them) the remaining members of Community Board 1 voted against the homeless shelter at 400 McGuinness Boulevard. With two abstentions.

P.S.: A lot happened at this meeting I will share some highlights as they upload!

After getting word form my buddy Jay that a beleaguered Beamer was being used as a trash receptacle on the Champs-Élysées of our fair burgh I simply had to see (and smell) this spectacle for myself. I am pleased to report I was not disappointed!
As you can see it has received a few “additions”.
The presence of food matter, vomitus and/or effluvia was noted.
A solitary carrot has found its way into the mix.
Here’s a close up of the cat shit.
And last— but hardly least— a parking ticket. What will tomorrow hold, you ask? That remains to be seen. But I suspect our fellow Greenpointers will not disappoint!

The above item comes courtesy of Jay Lombard, who writes:
You should check out this car on McG near Norman. Parked next to PS 34 for weeks (wish I had taken a photo from late Feb for comparison). It has the usual dirt and grime from being parked on the Boulevard for an extended period PLUS our neighbors have seen fit to adorn it with:
1) contents of litter box. Note the clump factor
2) shriveled banana peel
3) remnants of at least two notes requesting removal. Possibly by the principal of the adjacent school?Besides occupying a prime parking spot in a neighborhood where parking is scarce this vehicle prevents the street from being cleaned (Sweeper operators have left a noticeable trail from repeatedly swerving around it), is an eyesore and, now, is beginning to stink. I’ve placed a call to 311 to report an abandoned car with NH plates. How long until it gets removed and what other items pile on top of it while it sits there are anyone’s guess.
WOW. Methinks I will have to pay this al fresco litter box a visit!

Chris Arnade (who took the above photograph) writes:
Great band performing last night at the Sugar Hill Disco.
It was a very odd night. Sugar Hill Disco has been around for forty years, serving the local community. The owner, Eddie, noticing the change in the neighborhood and being “a great business man” has decided to start catering to the younger, whiter crowds.
It was a fun, at times odd, clash of the old with the new.
I got a big hug and invite from Eddie for Thursday Karaoke with the old time crowd. I can’t wait for that.
