Hey there, Miss Heather,
Since you’re so good at putting the word our to the nabe when one of us loses something, I thought I’d reach out. My beautiful 3 & 1/2 year old Fuji cruiser was stolen from in front of my apt on on Leonard, between Greenpoint & Calyer. Cops say it’s my job to look for it, so I’m scouring. It’s a light silvery-purple in the body shape of the attached pic.
Bike has:black wire basket on frontblack water bottle holderrear-view mirror on left sideringy-bell with cats on it on left sidefront wheel was recently bent on a ride If you could let people know, I’d be ever so grateful!
Done! Anyone who has seen this bicycle or knows of its whereabouts should contact Fifi via email at fifi(dot)fleshwound (at)gmail(dot)com
Thanks!

On November 27th, Jay noted:
New access cover on Monitor street. Third replacement this year. There’s still a month left in 2011 for this one to get swiped, too.
This morning, December 22nd, Jay writes:
With just over a week left in 2011 another access cover on monitor street has been swiped. That makes 4? 5? for this year alone. I’ve lost count. Will the next one come gift wrapped?
Since we Greenpointers have by and large been a good lot, perhaps Santa and his elves will see fit to give us a new one? My advice is as follows: Monitor Street residents leave a plate of milk and cookies next to this pilfered man hole come December 24th. (Hey, a little bribery never hurt!) In the meantime I would like to humbly recommend the following to our fair city:
- Some attempt at policing the scrap metal businesses (which are clearly purchasing these stolen goods) be made.
- These access covers be fashioned out of a material (plastic perhaps?) which render them non-lucrative to sell.
In closing, I will leave you with some more handiwork of our local entrepreneurs courtesy of a lass named Robin.

Hey heather ,
Here are some pix of missing covers. one is on Withers St. by Graham the other 2 are right across the street from Scrap It Up, on Maspeth and Morgan where all the guys go with their shopping carts full of “scrap”. It was too dark when I past but you should check out the naked fire hydraint out in front, LOL.
New York Shitty Manhole Watch: Special 8th Commandment Edition
I have been woefully remiss in sharing the latest round of access cover plunder plaguing our fair burgh. This egregious oversight I hope to correct soon (probably tomorrow). In the meantime, I leave you with this one I found today across the street from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Drive carefully!
From The New York Shitty Inbox, Part II: India Street Cats Poisoned?
Filed under: 11222, Asshole, Criminal Activity, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic
I have received word that someone has attempted— and in one case, succeeded*— to poison the feral cats who call the end of India Street their home. If any of you, dear readers, see suspicious activity please call the police. Otherwise here’s what a commenter in the know has to say about animal abuse:
Poisoning Cats in New York State is a Felony
Punishment for this crime is 2 year in prison and/or a $5,000 fine

So, my car got fucking demolished the other night by some shithead who bailed. It was just parked on the street by Roberta’s. If you see fit, I would greatly appreciate if you threw this pic up and see if anyone witnessed it?I had the car for 6 days.

Today’s stolen sewer cover hails from (amusingly enough) the Central Testing Station for our fair city’s drinking water at 245 Meserole Avenue. NOTE: one of the caps gracing the fire hydrant has gone MIA as well.

This disturbing but fortunately non-violent incident comes courtesy of a person we’ll call “B”. He writes:
Hey Miss Heather
Turns out I am the second victim in two days of a thief on a bike stealing iPhones right out of peoples hands!!!! I chased this guy down leonard, where he zipped across grand, and slowed down enough to get onto the sidewalk and ride down grand and disappeared when he went left onto lorimerNow, the whole time I’m screaming stop him stop him, he stole my phone. everyone in front of the williamsburg country club and that bike shop next to it stood there and did NOTHING! when I finally collapsed from sprinting, a nice woman let me call from her cell.Cops are eager to bust this guy. They drove me around looking and then the detectives too. At the end of the day, it’s not about the hunk of plastic, it’s about getting jacked while walking down the street. Update to readers!!! Don’t text while you walk alone. STAY ALERT. Cops say this is happening too frequently. The thieves then sell the phones to the Domincan Republic.*BIGGEST PART OF IT!* FINDMYIPHONE APP is garbage! Once they have your phone they go to settings and turn it off. It doesn’t ask for the password when you disable the function. ATTWS was no help and they sent me to apple. EVEN THE COPS WERE PUT ON HOLD!whatever, still amped from the experience. Just a warning that it’s still shady out there.

At what point will our city— more specifically, the Department of Transportation and our police departments— admit they (we) have a problem? While I am happy a concerned citizen saw fit to intervene and managed to get the person responsible arrested (god bless him), the fact remains this “accident” probably should not have happened in the first place. Plain and simple.
New York Shitty Manhole Patrol: Hopscotch
Filed under: 11222, Criminal Activity, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic
Perhaps it is the overcast weather, but today yours truly has a case of the doldrums. No, make that had. Thanks to the immensely talented Will Star I got a little inspiration. So I grabbed a few sticks of sidewalk chalk and headed over to Clay Street. Why Clay Street, you ask? Very simple: it is located just around the corner from Barge Park Playground and sports the above depicted plundered access cover. I felt by perhaps drawing a hopscotch grid around this hazard it would make people aware that it is only a matter of time before someone (very likely a child) injures him/herself by falling into it.
