Has Anyone Seen Wythe?

The cat, that is!

wythe

I am guessing the author of this flier meant to write “last seen Sunday, October 16th“. If you have seen Wythe* or know of his (or her) whereabouts please contact his “person” at the above telephone number. Let’s get this gorgeous guy (or gal) back home where he belongs!

*Which is a WONDERFUL name for a cat, by the way.

Garden Spot Photo du Jour: A Very Greenpoint Stroller Mom

October 20, 2009 ·

As you can probably ascertain by today’s delayed postage, I decided to table the blog for awhile and go for a walk. The way I see it, winter will be upon us soon enough so I should enjoy every last drop of sunshine and shirtsleeve weather while I can. It was on Green Street that I encountered a threesome who shares my sentiment—  even they do not have to wear shirtsleeves (or pants, for that matter).

threesome

The occupants of this double-decker “stroller” for the fashionable furry set are (from top to bottom): King Billy, Milo (to the right) and Chuck Norris (to the left). Yes, you just read me correctly: somewhere in our fair burgh there is a cat named Chuck Norris— and he likes (or at least doesn’t seem to mind) touring our streets in a stroller.

In the course of our conversation his “person” told me that at some point she plans to adopt a brother for Chuck and his buddy Milo. His name will be Clint Eastwood. I wonder if they make triple-deckers?

From The New York Shitty Inbox: Dog Habitat Gets A Very Special Caller

spooky

I recently bumped into Rob Maher one of the minds behind Unleash Brooklyn and Dog Habitat. He told me about something really neat which happened recently. It involves the above lass. Her name is Spooky and this is her story:

Spooky found us. No, really! She walked up the stairs and sat on our front door just before the temperature dropped this fall. She is about six months old. She is extremely friendly, but in need of some personal attention and lots of love.

Anyone interested in learning more about this street smart Greenpoint girlie— or wants to make your home Spooky’s permanent haunt— please shoot the guys (and gals) of Dog Habitat an email at: rescue (at) doghabitat (dot) org. They can also be reached via telephone at: (347) 601-8678.

Thanks!

Although this flier (which hails from Graham Avenue and Richardson Street) is a week old I am going to post it anyway. If this lovely lady is yours— or you wish to give her a forever home— please contact her rescuer at the above telephone number.

P.S.: On a related note, tomorrow Muddy Paws will be hosting an adoption event tomorrow, October 11, starting at 2:00 p.m.

New York Shitty Day Starter: Stray Cat Strut

The purpose of this post is two fold: shameless self-promotion (albeit for a cause— somewhat) and giving (long overdue) props to wonderful lady who— if I remember correctly— coined the term “stray cat strut” (for posts of a feline nature). I’ll start with the latter first:

Her name is Jennifer. She operates a site called Last Night’s Dinner. She resides in Rhode Island (or as I prefer to see it: she is a Brooklyn ex-pat operative in Rhode Island). Jennifer is a cat lover par excellence. She is also a damned good chef. And last month she received some very well deserved (and long overdue) press:

PROVO

You can read this tome in its entirety by clicking here. Otherwise you can view the many culinary creations of Jennifer (and the occasional glimpse of her pussies, including June Bug who hails from Bushwick, Brooklyn U.S.A.) by clicking here. WAY TO GO, JEN! I think the Mister wants to marry you for your personality pork burgers.

Otherwise, I am proud to announce that I will be having an exhibition of my photography at Greenpoint’s very own TBD this December! The general premise/theme will be “(People) In My Neighborhood”. The details have yet to finessed (because I have to finesse them) but there will be an opening and all the works contained therein will be for sale.

I intend to allocate a portion of the proceeds to causes I am particularly fond of. Empty Cages Collective (whose rusty tabby graces this post) will be one of them. The Greenpoint Reformed Church’s Food Pantry/Soup Kitchen will be another. That’s the short list. Although I am a self-professed cat lady, I have no intention of leaving my canine compatriots out in the cold!

More details to follow.

Has Anyone Seen Troy?

lostdog

This— the latest addition to the slew of lost pet fliers I have found this week— hails from Union Avenue and Bayard Street. Troy’s person, Jessica, writes:

Just moved to Greenpoint from Virginia and my dog Troy got out last night Oct. 7 without his collar. He is a 2 yr old German Shepherd who is very friendly and gentle but extremely timid. Troy is about 55 lbs and has white on his paws, chest, and tip of his tail. He shys away from unfamiliar faces which makes locating him tricky. Please call me if you see him so I can assist in the rescue and get him home.

If you have seen Troy or know of his whereabouts you know what to do… Thanks!

Borough Of Lost Pets

grattancat

Just as was the case yesterday I went out for another walk to enjoy the lovely fall weather. I followed my usual m.o., e.g.; taking subway somewhere (in today’s case the Jefferson Street stop of the L) and walking home. This may not be everyone’s idea of a good time but I enjoy it. Today was no exception save one disturbing trend: the numerous lost pet fliers I found along the way. Here they are— along with a few furkids who were lucky enough to be found by some very kind humans.

FLUSHING AVENUE

FOUNDKITTEN

Notes/observations: I found a number of these fliers around the Morgan Avenue stop of the L so it is safe to presume he was probably found in this area.

GRATTAN STREET

meatball

Notes/observations: Judging from the condition of the flier I’d say this one has been around for a while. I found it around the corner from where Meatball calls home: Roberta’s Pizzeria. If you have seen Meatball— the coolest named dog EVER— please call his people at the above telephone number.

BOGART STREET

founddog

Notes/observations: This is disturbing as hell.

HERBERT STREET

littleman

Notes/observations: This one hails from a little closer to home: Herbert at Monitor Street. If you have seen Little Man (which happens to a nickname for one of yours truly’s felines) you know what to do.

CALYER STREET

bella

Notes/observations: Although the flier was found at Calyer and Eckford Street, Bella was last seen at Manhattan Avenue and India Street. Judging the wording of this flier I have to wonder if Bella was lost or stolen. Stealing pets for resale (or reward money) is a cottage industry in Brooklyn. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: KEEP AN EYE ONE YOUR PETS. DO NOT LEAVE THEM UNATTENDED. PEOPLE CAN AND WILL TAKE THEM!!!

In closing I will leave you with this lost dog alert from my friends at District Dog.

MISSING DOG: GREENPOINT/LIC
RED WENT MISSING ON FRIDAY NIGHT. HE IS A 1 YR OLD RED LABRADOR, HE IS NEUTERED AND HAS A BLACK SPOT ON HIS TONGUE.

HE WAS LAST SEEN HEADED OVER THE PULASKI BRDGE TOWARDS L.I.C.

INFO: NAME: RED
BREED: RED LAB

PLEASE PASS THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW IN THE AREA.
