RightRides
I found this flier outside the Broadway stop of the G train last weekend and feel compelled to pass it along. RightRides offers “safe walks” to Bushwick, Bed-Stuy, Williamsburg, Fort Greene and Greenpoint Friday nights between 11:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. It is a service definitely worth checking out if you happen to be out late and feel reluctant to walk home alone. All you need to do is call 1-866-977-WALK and they’ll do the rest!
For more information about RightRides (including their service area, hours and free ride program), click here and you will be directed to their web site.

Luxury Condominiums For Sale!
Corcoran has made its presence known in Bedford Stuyvesant!
This must be a luxurious pile of crap if Corcoran has seen fit to pimp it.
Follows are some of the appointments for this luxury condo:
- Air-conditioning boxes by Friedrich.
- Shoddy brick laying (pointing).
- Exposed PVC and gutters.
- Exposed electrical meters.
- Ample of amounts of cement and no greenery whatsoever.
- Butt ugly balconies.
Way to go, Babs!

Still Missing In Bed Stuy

Every time I see a flier like this (one which is located on Lewis Avenue just north of Fulton Street) my heart breaks. If you have any information about this wayward puppy, please contact his (or her) owner at the above phone number.

Fedderfest 2008: Herkimer Street
Today’s installment of Fedders Friday focuses on quantity, not quality. I suppose this is apropos given the philosophy belying the architectural legacy that is Feddertecture is to cram as many people (and cement) into as small a place as is humanly possible.
Earlier this week I walked down Herkimer Street. Between Brooklyn and Albany Avenue I beheld no less than NINETEEN Fedders buildings. Let’s count them, shall we?
1,2,3,4,5,6,7 all good taste has gone to heaven.
I didn’t number this one because it would blemish the seizure-inducing brickwork. This sickening sextet reminds me of a vanilla wafer. Super-sized. We’re up to (un)lucky 13!
The local Fedders salesman must have made a fortune on this block.
Wouldn’t you love to look out at your living room window to see the grill of a Range Rover? I know I would. For those of you who have been counting, this makes nineteen Fedders Specials to seven SUVs/vans. Is there a relationship between gas guzzling motor vehicles and Fedders? That, my friends, will be the subject of another post!

Ugliest. Building. Ever.
As a resident of north Brooklyn I have seen my fair share (and then some) of ugly buildings. When scouting for crapitecture to showcase on Fedders Friday I often find myself saying:
That sure is ugly. But is it ugly enough?
Today, dear readers, I found an edifice so utterly hideous I was speechless. It hails from the intersection of Fulton Street and Classon Avenue on the border between Bedford Stuyvesant and Clinton Hill. Strap on your barf bags kids, here it comes!
The first thing that struck me about this building (actually, it’s two buildings but they’re conjoined so I am treating them as one) is its apparent lack of any aesthetic sense or “plan”.
Here’s a shot of the building to the left. This architect decided to go eclectic— and by “eclectic” I mean throwing a bunch of random stuff together.
A bunch of very ugly random stuff.
What would a masterpiece of this caliber be if it was besmirched by greenery?
No worries, they’ve got it covered.
With cement.

Borough Of Lost Toys, Part III
One thing I really love about Brooklyn is their love of toys. As I walk our borough’s streets I never know when I will find a tug boat perched atop a quonset, a leopard hiding in a shrub or a dapperly dressed plastic duck. But enough with the words, let’s see some toys!
Myrtle Avenue, Fort Greene
Wythe Avenue, Williamsburg
Stuyvesant Avenue, Bedford Stuyvesant
Boerum Street, “East Williamsburg”
Putnam Avenue, Bedford Stuyvesant.
I got into an interesting discussion with a gentleman (and Marine Corps. veteran) who lives across the street from this planter. That’s one thing I have noticed about Bed-Stuy; the people who live there are incredibly friendly and LOVE to talk.
Neighbor: I saw the guy who put the leopard in that planter.
Miss Heather: Really?
Neighbor: Yes, it was around midnight. I thought to myself “You know, if he wants to do that kind of thing he should do it on his own property. Someone’s liable to walk by this at twelve hundred or thirteen hundred, you know, in the morning, drunk, and think, Hey it’s a kitten!”
Did I mention Bed-Stuyers also have a wicked sense of humor?
