Greenpoint Video Jour: Live From The Shit Tits
Alas, today my buddy Larry and I didn’t make it on time to go on the “interactive tour” (I will make it a point of getting there bright and early tomorrow). Nonetheless I was pleased to see there were quite a few folks who wanted to tour the 9th Wonder of the World: Greenpoint’s very own Shit Tits!
I’m don’t know why this shutterbug found Larry, his partner in crime, Willie; Sadie and I so interesting as to merit being photographed. But if I had to hazard a guess I’d say the following might have had something to do with it.
I’m not too sure if this will find its way onto “Thinking Tanking”— but we can always hope!

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: 3rd Annual District Dog Halloween Parade
Yes, I realize this isn’t until the end of the month but I wanted all you dog owners to have ample time to get a costume prepared for your pups! Some of you might recall that last year’s winner was canine dressed up as our very own and beloved Crosstown Local.
Victoria writes:
The G Train Dog won! And in keeping with tradition, when called upon, the G Train (dog) would not move. He had to be coaxed from his spot by his owner. Hilarious!

Reader Comment of the Week: Something Very Neat Indeed!
Today I could not for the life of me get motivated. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I was depressed. It was more like a case of the autumn doldrums to which I tend to be prone. There’s something about the days getting shorter and the weather getting cooler that makes me want to stay in bed in the morning.
Fortunately I got a little something in the way of a pick-me-up that I wanted to share. It made me smile and I am certain it will do the same for you. Which brings me to the thumbnail gracing this post: as some of you might recall yesterday I posted a lost dog flier for a pup named Troy. Well, I am pleased to announce that he is not only home safe and sound but I had a part in making this happen! kaveh writes:
Hey Heather,
Troy has been returned to his home! I was walking home last night and noticed my upstairs neighbor, who doesn’t own a dog, was walking one. Fast forward 10 minutes later, I’m checking your blog (as I have been doing daily for years) and see this posting about Troy. I thought he looked familiar and told my wife about it. This morning my wife saw our neighbor and sure enough, he was found a couple of days ago. We referred back to your blog, they called the owner and we hear that Troy was brought home today. So thank you for posting this and for making this wonderful blog.
You know, some days operating New York Shitty feels like an exercise in masochism. I receive no compensation whatsoever for the amount of time I put in researching and writing posts and let’s face facts: “bloggers” do not exactly get a lot of respect (and to be perfectly frank a number of them do not deserve it). The previous having been written, I have a confession to make: knowing that I have helped a Troy find his way to his rightful owner makes all the trials, tribulations, frustrations and late nights totally worth it. Thank you so much kaveh, for sharing the good news with us!

Greenpoint Halloween Watch: Pirate!
I don’t know about you, but on a blah day like this nothing cheers me up like a little Halloween goodness. This pirate hails from Russell Street just down the block from one of the coolest, creepiest houses in Greenpoint. Keep an eye for him!

New York Shitty Day Starter: Stray Cat Strut
Filed under: 11206, 11222, Brooklyn, Crazy Cat Lady, East Williamsburg, East Williamsburg Brooklyn, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic
The purpose of this post is two fold: shameless self-promotion (albeit for a cause— somewhat) and giving (long overdue) props to wonderful lady who— if I remember correctly— coined the term “stray cat strut” (for posts of a feline nature). I’ll start with the latter first:
Her name is Jennifer. She operates a site called Last Night’s Dinner. She resides in Rhode Island (or as I prefer to see it: she is a Brooklyn ex-pat operative in Rhode Island). Jennifer is a cat lover par excellence. She is also a damned good chef. And last month she received some very well deserved (and long overdue) press:
You can read this tome in its entirety by clicking here. Otherwise you can view the many culinary creations of Jennifer (and the occasional glimpse of her pussies, including June Bug who hails from Bushwick, Brooklyn U.S.A.) by clicking here. WAY TO GO, JEN! I think the Mister wants to marry you— for your personality pork burgers.
Otherwise, I am proud to announce that I will be having an exhibition of my photography at Greenpoint’s very own TBD this December! The general premise/theme will be “(People) In My Neighborhood”. The details have yet to finessed (because I have to finesse them) but there will be an opening and all the works contained therein will be for sale.
I intend to allocate a portion of the proceeds to causes I am particularly fond of. Empty Cages Collective (whose rusty tabby graces this post) will be one of them. The Greenpoint Reformed Church’s Food Pantry/Soup Kitchen will be another. That’s the short list. Although I am a self-professed cat lady, I have no intention of leaving my canine compatriots out in the cold!
More details to follow.

P.S.: Some of you might have noticed that a new “category” graces this post. It is called “BAD ASS” and is inspired by the Cadillac-cum-date rape of my senses and sensibilities which graces the beginning of this post.
Has Anyone Seen Troy?
Filed under: 11211, 11222, Crazy Cat Lady, Greenpoint, Greenpoint Brooklyn, Greenpoint Magic, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn
This— the latest addition to the slew of lost pet fliers I have found this week— hails from Union Avenue and Bayard Street. Troy’s person, Jessica, writes:
Just moved to Greenpoint from Virginia and my dog Troy got out last night Oct. 7 without his collar. He is a 2 yr old German Shepherd who is very friendly and gentle but extremely timid. Troy is about 55 lbs and has white on his paws, chest, and tip of his tail. He shys away from unfamiliar faces which makes locating him tricky. Please call me if you see him so I can assist in the rescue and get him home.
If you have seen Troy or know of his whereabouts you know what to do… Thanks!
