Greenpoint Lost & Found
As I was knocking about the Garden Spot today I found two fliers regarding lost and found pets. I am going to pass them along here— along with a few notes.
I stumbled upon this flier for a found pup (Bichon Frise? Maltese?) on Noble between Franklin and Lorimer Street. No details are given other than he (or she) was found on Lorimer Street. If this is your dog or you know to whom he (she?) belongs please contact the 94th Precinct at the above-listed telephone number.
I found this flier at 87 Dobbin Street. Once again no details are given. However, if you have happened upon a kitten resembling the one depicted in the above photograph around the intersection of Dobbin Street and Norman Avenue, chances are pretty good it is this guy (or girl). I suppose it goes without saying— but I am going to say it anyway: if you have seen the above kitty or know of his/her whereabouts please call his (or her) people at the above telephone number. Thanks!

New & Noteworthy: CO-OP 87
I stumbled upon this storefront today as I was running errands. I didn’t have time to pop in— but then again I really didn’t have the need: I do not collect LPs. However, I know a number people reading this do and would undoubtedly find what Co-Op 87 offers of interest. Per the sandwich board in front, this establishment feaures records from Kemado, Mexican Summer, Captured Tracks, Sacred Blues and Minimal Wave; and specializes in “limited edition” and “exclusive vinyl”. Those of you who are attending tomorrow’s Record Riot may very be behooved to swing by and give this place a look-see. Not only is Co-Op 87 a mere ten minute walk from the Warsaw, but I am damned curious to hear more about this, Greenpoint’s newest business!

Swing by, check it out and let me know what you think!

As coincidence would have it I found a also found the latter most in my inbox when I arrived home. Ed writes:
Hey Miss Heather,
Longtime reader here. Keep up the good work. Found some hipsters hard at work and they made this fella. People think he looks Polish. Hope the creators read your blog to get credit for this.
You and me both, Ed. It is quite the masterpiece!

New York Shitty Day Starter: The Norman Snowman
This handsome chap comes courtesy of lady_rachel and hails from, appropriately enough, Norman Avenue. For those of you who are not in the know Norman Avenue was named after the founding father of Greenpoint: one Dirck Volckerstzen. Better known as “Dirck the Norman“— who was undoubtedly all too familiar with the fluffy stuff which is currently proliferating in our fair ‘burgh.
It should also be noted (because I am a history dork/Greenpoint geek) there was once a place called Norman’s Kill. Don’t take my word for it. Here’s a snippet from an article from the March 11 1888 edition of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle. NOTE: “E.D.” means Eastern District which encompasses what we now know as Williamsburg, Bushwick and Greenpoint.

New York Shitty Day Ender: The Seagulls of Huron Street
Negotiating the streets might have been a slog for us bipeds today, but as you can see the seagulls of Huron Street took the snow in stride— in a manner of speaking. As a matter of fact, I’d go so far as to day they were having a grand time!
And on that note, dear readers, I am calling it an early day. A nice hot bath and an evening of relaxation beckons!
