Hi Miss Heather,

First of all, thank you so much for posting about last week’s event! We had a good turn out, but we still have lots of adorable cats and kittens waiting to find homes. This Saturday we are having another bigger event with all our adoptable kitties and a bake sale. The event will be at 95 North 6th Street in Williamsburg from 2-6pm.

If you don’t mind posting about another cat related event, we’d really appreciate your help, and it would be wonderful if you could stop by!

Duly posted! As to whether or not I can swing by, who’s to say? I have a very busy weekend ahead of me!

From The New York Shitty Inbox, Part II: Support The Bedbug Law

I rarely repost press releases verbatim but given the subject matter of this one (which comes from our very own State Assemblyman, Joe Lentol) well, let’s just say it will be of great interest to a great many north Brooklynites.

You can shoot David Paterson an email encouraging him to make this bill a law by clicking here.

Donations Wanted: BARC Fundraiser

As many of you reading this are probably aware, yours truly has a fondness for fur kids. This is especially true of cats. For this reason I feel compelled to pass along that BARC is seeking donations of art for their upcoming fundraiser. Julie writes:

Just to confirm, the event is scheduled for Monday, September 13th at My Two Dogs, 434 Manhattan Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222 (718-963-0400).

The time will be from 7 PM until approximately 10 PM.  Any artwork that artists would like to donate can be dropped off at BARC Shelter, 253 Wythe Ave,  or I can arrange to pick it up.  BARC hours are Tues-Sat from 12-5.

The event is free for people who just want to attend.  If someone wants to bring home a piece of artwork they’ll donate $250 and they’ll select the piece they want (names of all the people who donate $250 go into a jar and are picked at random- first name picked selects first and so on).

I have been advised that any and all artists donating work should attach a piece of paper to their work with the following information:

  1. their name
  2. their email address (NOTE: this is for BARC’s purposes only.)
  3. name of the piece (if there is one)
  4. media used in the piece

The deadline for submissions is September 1st, so any and all interested in submitting work should get hustling!

New York Shitty Slide Show Du Jour: Mixed Signals

August 18, 2010 ·
Filed under: 11211, Williamsburg, Williamsburg Brooklyn

Yesterday as would luck would have it my colleague over at the Newtown Pentacle was in my neck of the woods. On a lark, I decided to tag along as he walked to the Williamsburg Bridge. Not only I was looking forward to some face time with my friend across the creek but it also happens that this structure has become one of yours trulys favorite haunts. Why, you ask? Very simple:

  1. It is various lovely shades of pink.
  2. The missives written on and around this bridge are too darned interesting.

In regards to the latter-most point (and in my observation) these communiques run the gamut from cryptic to cute to curiously motivational to (as we have seen above) offers some of us might not refuse. Follows is a mini slide show of highlights from yesterday’s sojourn on the bridge. Enjoy!

As always I recommend you view these images in larger format. You can do so by clicking here.

Vollies Needed At AutoGarden

Ever had something you have been meaning to get around to be keep forgetting to do? This post will (hopefully) address one of the the items that has long been on my “to do” list but has,  gotten lost in the shuffle— repeatedly. If you like what you have just seen please volunteer at this wonderful addition to the neighborhood. Let’s work together to help this much needed bit of greenery going in the Garden Spot of the Universe!
