I spied this, the newest store to grace Greenpoint’s second strip (that being Franklin Street), this afternoon. Does anyone reading this have the 411 about this establishment? If so please share via comments or email at: missheather (at) thatgreenpointblog (dot) com. Thanks!

  2. Any relation to the furniture store Luddite on Broadway and Wythe near the bridge? They have some fantastic old stuff – I bought a 50 year old locker from them that included original keys, names written in chalk on the front, and puddles for greasy, dangerous-smelling chemicals for cheap.

  4. I cannot believe I did not think of that! Methinks you might be onto something, Reagan9000!

  6. It’s a long shot judging from the photo, but I heard Anella was opening another restaurant on Franklin. A search on the name came up with this. Moving from one end of Greenpoint to the other?

  8. Now that I think about it, I have heard buzz about that was well. Hmm. Perhaps this is some kind of joint venture?

  10. Yes, of course it’s the same Luddite from the other location and from what I know they are closing / have closed the old spot

  12. Okay— so where does the “tall cotton” fit into this? I ask because this is (incorrect*) southern parlance for being flush in funds. To use a real life example…

Shortly before my grandmother— a very cute and tiny woman (4’10”), Texas born and bred from bona fide frontier stock, which is not to be trifled with as you will soon learn— died she was having lunch at the local country club in her tiny town. Her husband had helped found this club so she, while not a member, was allowed to go there whenever she felt like it. On the day in question she was having lunch— soup to be precise— when the new pastor of her church (from Fort Worth— “the big city”) sauntered up and said:

You must be in high cotton if you are eating here!

Without so much as looking up from her soup she replied:

My husband helped found this club, jackass.

I suppose it goes without saying that after she died another pastor had to be brought in to conduct her funeral.

*Per this Mister this term was used in Missouri.

Tell me what you're thinking...
