More Fun With The Luxe Guesthouse

It’s Saturday afternoon and I am pleased to announce that the fun isn’t over yet with Greenpoint’s newest luxury hostel— in fact, it looks like it has just begun. Apparently the Luxe Guesthouse at 184 Eagle Street (as seen above) is only one of three hostels Fizzburg Equity Partners LLC has set up in Greenpoint. And it doesn’t stop there: three more such establishments are in the works. Don’t believe me? Read the following email thoughtfully provided by an anonymous tipster who writes:

Thought you might want to read this, since I saw a posting on your site. I got it a while back from a girl in town who was working with the local businesses to try to get us to hire her firm for PR. We didn’t, but apparently this is her new venture…luxury hostels.

    2. I wonder what a local lifestyle guide entails. Hold your nose when you pass by the shit factory? Try not to set off car alarms (or rub your ass on people’s cars)? Wear a bullet-proof vest when clubbing? I’m in a sarcastic mood this morning. Love the name Fizzburg, though.

    5. Yeah, I’m thinking bedbugs too. Not to mention, in this economy people need more affordable housing. Instead of turning all these condos into “luxury” hostels, I would rather see rents come down and some of these become affordable housing for the community.

    6. I agree with you d. But the sad reality is developers can make (make that RECOUP) more money on their (unwise) investments/speculation by running (illegal?) hostels. I would love nothing more than to see some of the vacant properties in Greenpoint utilized as housing for lower and middle income families. Not only is this the “right” thing to do but it would act as a stabilizing influence in our community. Empty buildings facilitate crime, occupied buildings do not— it is simple as that.

    But developers are not concerned with such matters. They are in the business of making money. Had they (developers) had any stake in the community, e.g.; actually living here, perhaps things would be different. But they don’t and as a result we have to live with the consequences of their actions. In this case becoming “luxury hostel” central.

    I would love to know the locations of the other five hostels they are operating here. I smell a New York Shitty “project” coming on…

    7. I am still flabbergasted at having *6* of these in our neighborhood. I just can’t imagine that the demand is that high. And what’s up with that Greenpoint Lodge place that someone posted in the last entry’s comments? Seems like a similar deal.
